What kind of event is a leisurely mini-game?
Just what it says. We're aiming to give teams a relaxing, fun, puzzle-filled day in the city. The idea is: solve some puzzles while traveling around San Francisco. Take your time, enjoy the day, work out your brain.
What about scoring?
To drive home the 'leisurely' part, there isn't going to be any scoring for this event. We want to encourage teams to enjoy themselves and their surroundings while solving puzzles; that means if you want to stop for a coffee or a bite to eat, you should! Of course, if teams want to develop some sort of scoring metric among themselves, that's totally fine.
Really? So, if we want to catch a movie...
Ok, be reasonable here. We'll staff clue locations for the better part of the day, but we will have a hard cut-off. We'll announce specific details about time cut-offs on the day of the game.
When does it start and expect to end?
We haven't nailed down these things quite yet, but we plan to start mid-morning. Depending on your solving quickness and level of leisure-liness, we hope that most teams will finish in the early evening.
What about Passover?
We expect teams to finish before sundown, but since we can't guarantee that, we encourage teams that have members who observe Passover to sign up for the second weekend.
Sounds good, how much?
Entry Fee: $14 per person.
Entry Fee + MUNI pass: $25 per person.
What's MUNI and why do I care?
MUNI is San Francisco's municipal bus and metro system. Although some clue locations are within walking distance of each other, you'll be using the MUNI to connect the longer arcs. Because of this, we're including full-day passes in addition to the entry fee.
Why are you giving us the option of foregoing purchase of a MUNI pass?
We want to allow those people who already have MUNI passes to not have to pay for something they've already bought.
You can choose to pay your own way while riding MUNI. Doing so is probably a bit cheaper than getting the all-day pass, but remember that you'll have to carry change and board from the first bus car only.
If you're not familiar with MUNI, we recommend that you just let us provide passes for you. That way, you'll be able to simply get on and ride the metro with no hassle and won't have to worry about any of the logistics.
Are there transportation options other than MUNI?
If you're opposed to MUNI, that's fine, though it's likely non-optimal. The only real transportation rule is that driving is not allowed. Transportation by bike (not recommended if you plan to ride MUNI as their metro does not allow it), unicycle, or other method is fine with us. Just don't opt for the MUNI passes in that case.
Can our team just plan to walk the entire course?
Do NOT plan on doing this. You'll end up taking VERY long walks between some clues.
How many people per team?
To cover costs, we require a minimum of 4 players per team. There's no team size limit, but we are recommending 5 people per team. A little bigger is fine.
What do we need to bring?
You'll have to carry everything for the duration of the game, so we have made our requirements relatively light.
- The requisite pencils/pens/paper
- Scissors, tape, colored pencils
- A world almanac (go to the library and borrow one if you don't have one, any within the past 5 or so years is fine)
- Snacks/food and/or money for snacks/food.
When is the sign up deadline?
Sorry, this event is currently full.
Where do I sign up?
Signups are currently full. The waitlist is too.
